Statement of Faith and Feminine Vocation
Every member must affirm the following statements of faith and feminine vocation.
Statement of Faith
I, [name], with firm faith believe and profess everything that is contained in the Symbol of faith: namely:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
With firm faith, I also believe everything contained in the Word of God, whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by a solemn judgement or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth to be believed as divinely revealed.
I also firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.
Moreover, I adhere with religious submission of will and intellect to the teachings which either the Roman pontiff or the College of Bishops enunciate when they exercise their authentic Magisterium, even if they do not intend to proclaim these teachings by a definitive act.
AACW Statement of Feminine Vocation
I, [name], fully embrace the Church’s teaching on the dignity and vocation of women, of which the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, is the most complete expression. I believe that men and women are both “equally endowed with rational souls” and that man and woman “are equal as persons…and complementary as masculine and feminine.” I believe that “Humanity reaches its apex in the commandment of love” and “in the unity of the two, man and woman are called from the beginning not only to exist side by side or together, but…to exist mutually one for the other.” Woman, in her “being-woman”…reflect[s] the Creator’s wisdom and goodness” in her twofold mystery as “mother of all the living” and image of the Church, bride of Christ, through whom all men are saved.
By virtue of her femininity, each woman is called to and suited for motherhood as her primary vocation. This vocation to motherhood is prior to and reflected in all of her endeavors and occupations through the woman’s “readiness for the gift of self” and her natural orientation toward “that which is personal, living, and whole.” Indeed, the woman is the “mother and first teacher of the human being.” In her own “child’s upbringing… [while] it should include the contribution of both parents…the mother’s contribution is decisive in laying the foundation for a new human personality…and has a specific precedence.” These realities encompass spiritual motherhood, to which every woman is called, including consecrated virgins and religious sisters, as well as biological and adoptive motherhood, to which most women are also called. In the domestic sphere, women have “the first responsibility” to care for their children and their homes.
I likewise affirm that “each [woman] has her individual specialty and talent, and this talent gives her the capability of doing professional work [in] any discipline.” I affirm that “the personal resources of femininity are certainly no less than the resources of masculinity” but “they are merely different” and complementary. I believe that “the disturbance of that original relationship between man and woman” and the resulting discord in society is the consequence of sin, the guilt of which is shared by men and women as “the sin of man, created by God as male and female.” I affirm that “the overcoming of this evil inheritance is, generation after generation, the task of every human being, whether woman or man” and this task cannot be accomplished except through humble cooperation with the grace of God, who has declared that His new kingdom shall “put an end to the relationships caused by the Fall and…restore the original order.” I believe that it is only “in the grace of Christ [that] man and woman become capable of being freed from sin and of knowing the joy of mutual giving.” Thus, I affirm that “a wholesome collaboration of the sexes in professional life will be possible” and will prove “a blessing for the entire society;” but this blessing can be enjoyed “only if both achieve a calm and objective awareness of their nature;” and therefore, “women must not appropriate to themselves male characteristics contrary to their own feminine “originality.” It is a woman’s “great social responsibility” to preserve, nourish, and manifest the “feminine genius” in the daily practice of her personal and professional duties.
Finally, I do hereby affirm a complete and total commitment to the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. I place myself at the service of the unborn, the young, the elderly, and all those in need of nourishment in body or soul. I offer my time and talents for the good of souls, the mission of Holy Mother Church, and the glory of God. I renounce all vainglory and pride in my work, placing my gifts entirely at the disposal of God’s Holy Will. I assign my whole self, and all the fruits of my work, entirely to Jesus Christ, through His most Holy Mother Mary.
